Turkey's Fiber Infrastructure Reached 488 Thousand Km!

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that in the second quarter of this year, the net sales revenues of enterprises operating in the communication sector increased by 32 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 29,2 billion liras. Noting that a total of 162 million mobile numbers have been transferred, Karaismailoğlu noted that the fiber infrastructure has reached 488 thousand kilometers.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK). Expressing that as of the second quarter of 3, 2022 companies had 459 authorization certificates, Karaismailoğlu announced that the net sales revenues of the operators operating in the sector increased by 828 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 32 billion liras.

Karaismailoğlu pointed out that the number of mobile subscribers reached 88,5 million and the prevalence of mobile subscribers was 104,6 percent, and noted that 82,4 million of mobile subscribers preferred 4,5G subscription. Pointing out that the 4,5G service constitutes 93 percent of the total subscribers, Karaismailoğlu said, “The number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers was 7,8 million. In the second quarter of 2022, we talked on mobile phones for an average of 560 minutes per month. Turkey ranked first among European countries with this mobile usage time.

162 MILLION MOBILE NUMBERS MOVED

Pointing out that approximately 2,2 million mobile subscribers carried their numbers in the second quarter, Karaismailoğlu reported that the total number of mobile numbers carried reached 162 million. Underlining that the total number of broadband internet subscribers reached 71 million, 89,5 million of which are mobile internet subscribers, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu stated that the number of subscribers increased by 4.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

“We reached 488 thousand kilometers of fiber infrastructure in the second quarter of this year. The number of fiber internet subscribers has also exceeded 20,4 million, with an annual increase of approximately 5,2 percent,” said Karaismailoğlu, adding, “The use of broadband internet subscribers also increased significantly in the second quarter of 2022. The average monthly usage of fixed broadband internet subscribers was 238 GByte, while the average monthly usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers was 12,8 GByte.
