With the support and projects implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the number of buffaloes increased by 11 percent in the last 119 years, from 85 thousand to 185 thousand.

The "Anatolian Buffalo Breeding National Project in the Hands of the People", which was started in 2011 under the coordination of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies within the body of the Ministry, gives positive results.

The project, which was initiated with 2011 head buffaloes in 8 provinces in 11 with the aim of increasing the income obtained from buffalo breeding through breeding of water buffaloes, breeding superior breeding buffalo bulls, ensuring sustainable water buffalo breeding, and reviving the existence and breeding of domestic water buffalo, led to significant increases in the number of buffaloes and milk yield.

The project, in which the number of provinces has been increased to 18, still continues with approximately 2 thousand rootstocks in 706 thousand 28 enterprises. To date, a total of 225 million 100 thousand TL support payments have been made to breeders who fulfill the project requirements.

Within the scope of the Anatolian Buffalo Breeding Project in the Hands of the People; A total of 9 project leaders, including 11 faculty members from 7 universities and 18 researchers from TAGEM's institutes, take charge. Again with the project, university, buffalo breeders' associations and public cooperation are provided. A total of 28 project technical staff are employed to take part in each project.

BUFFER STAR PROGRAM

Within the scope of the project, for the first time in Turkey, such a large yield was recorded from buffaloes and a project tracking program called 'Buffalo Star' was created. Thus, awareness of breeders on record keeping, breeding and selection was created.

The Anatolian Mandate, whose numbers had decreased to 2010 thousand heads until 85, has reached 2011 thousand heads with an increase of 11 percent in the last 119 years, thanks to the project started in 185 and the support provided.

For the first time in Turkey, after the necessary tests were made from 2 buffalo bulls, semen production was started and made available to breeders. In this way, 10 thousand doses of semen were produced.

In order to reduce the effect of inbreeding and to refresh the blood, inter-provincial breeding bull transfer was carried out.

INCREASE IN PRODUCTION

Thanks to the project implementations, lactation milk yield was increased from 2012 liters in 776 to 2021 liters by the end of 1.115.

The 1-year-old live weight of Malaks was increased from 2012 kg in 150,9 to 2021 kg by the end of 167,8.

ANATOLIAN WAVE PRODUCTS

Anatolian Buffalo stands out with its quality products such as buffalo cream obtained from its milk, buffalo yoghurt and mozzarella cheese. Buffalo meat is mostly used in sausage making. Buffalo meat, which is used in its production, has an important contribution to the flavor of the famous Afyon sausage.

PROPERTIES OF BUFFLE MILK

Since the buffaloes convert all the carotene to vitamin A, the color of their milk is whiter than other milks, so the vitamin A content is quite high.

Although the fat content of buffalo milk (7-8%) is approximately 3 times higher than cow's milk (4-2%), the cholesterol value of buffalo milk (43% less) is significantly lower than cow's milk.

In terms of mineral substance content, buffalo milk is superior to cow milk. For example, calcium, iron and phosphorus content is higher than cow's milk. In addition, the fact that various bio-protective substances (immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, etc.) are higher in buffalo milk makes buffalo milk superior to cow milk in special diets and healthy food preparation.

Buffalo milk is superior in terms of suitability for processing into products. Higher fat content and higher dry matter increase the efficiency in the production of products such as butter, yoghurt and milk powder.

KİRİŞCİ: WE WILL DEVELOP THE ANATOLIAN BUFFLE

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci stated that they give great support and incentives to animal husbandry. Underlining that they attach great importance to the Anatolian Buffalo Breeding Project in the Hands of the People, which is carried out under the coordination of TAGEM, Kirişci said that thanks to the project implemented in 18 provinces, significant increases were achieved both in the number of buffaloes and in productivity.

Stressing that they are pleased with the increase in the number of buffaloes day by day, Kirişci said: “The biggest contribution to the increase in this number is the Anatolian Buffalo Breeding Project in the Hands of the People. Thanks to our project and our support, there has been a significant increase in milk yield besides the number of buffaloes. We will continue to support our manufacturer. We will continue to increase the number of buffaloes. Buffaloes are the national asset of our country. We will continue to protect and develop our Anatolian buffaloes.”

Reminding that they implemented the Contracted Livestock Project, which is an exemplary production model in the sector, with the principle of domestic and national production, Kirişci added that they are always on the side of the farmer and the producer.
