Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is preparing to turn the Seferihisar Kocaçay creek into a center of attraction for the people of Izmir. A resource of 88,5 million lira has been allocated for Kocaçay Stream, which will be transformed into a sustainable urban design area. In addition to the improvement of the stream, the project will include viewing terraces, a plant island, a pedestrian bridge and afforestation. Work will begin in the coming days for the project, for which the site has been delivered by the Metropolitan Municipality.

Sarper Coşkun, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Construction Affairs Branch Manager, said that Kocaçay creek will be turned into an area where the people of İzmir can meet with the greenery and relax, walk and do sports in the fresh air, and said, “An urban design application will be made in an area of 136 thousand square meters. A green area of 80 thousand square meters will be created around the creek, consisting of plants that hold carbon. Within the scope of the project, 484 trees will be planted in the area. Wooden sun terrace, sitting units, walking paths and playgrounds will be created by the creek surrounded by a green fence made of various plants. The project is planned to be completed in the first months of 2024.
