Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He examined the works on the Çiğli Tram, of which 80 percent of its construction has been completed. Announcing that the line will be put into operation in March 2023, Soyer said, "We continue to weave İzmir with iron nets."

The Mayor, who toured the tram route with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Özgür Ozan Yılmaz, and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Rail System Department Head Mehmet Oğuz Ergenekon. Tunç Soyerannounced that they are nearing the end of their construction work. Mayor Soyer heralded that the line will be put into service in March 2023 and said, “We are bringing Çiğli together with the tram. At the end of March, Çiğli will have a much more modern, clean and comfortable public transportation system. The cost of the investment, which will significantly ease the Çiğli traffic, will reach 1,5 billion liras.”

“Trial flights in December”

Stating that the construction works will be completed within 1,5 months at the latest, President Soyer said, “The trouble, dust, soil and noise we caused to our citizens will be largely over. After that, electro-mechanical studies will begin. We start trial flights in December and put the line into operation at the end of March. In short; It's a very exciting process. Despite all the troubled times, we continued without slowing down. It's very close to the end. As of now, we can say that 80 percent of the productions have been completed”.

Mayor Soyer also gave information about other rail system investments in the city and said, “Our work on the Narlıdere Metro continues rapidly. We started digging tunnels in Buca Metro. One of the most important indicators of how developed a city is is about how intensively rail systems are used in public transportation. That's why İzmir is on its way to become an exemplary city for Turkey again. We continue to weave İzmir with iron nets.”

Where will it go?

The foundation of the Çiğli Tram line was laid in February of last year. The line, which will consist of 11 kilometers and 14 stations, will start from the Cevreyolu Station and will be connected to Çiğli Ataşehir Mahallesi with a viaduct. The route of the line is planned to serve the Ring Road Station, Ataşehir, Çiğli Ataşehir District, Çiğli İZBAN Station, Çiğli Regional Training Hospital, Ata Industrial Zone, Katip Çelebi University and Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone. Thus, Çiğli Tram will breathe into the region, ease the traffic, and facilitate access to hospitals, universities and industry in the region.
