China's Energy Use Increased by 4 Percent in the First Nine Months of the Year

Electricity consumption, a key indicator of economic activity, showed steady growth in the first nine months of the year, according to official data released on 13 October. The National Energy Administration announced that energy use in the January-September period of the year increased by 4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 6,49 trillion kilowatt-hours.

Energy consumption in the basic industry sector increased by 8,4 percent on a yearly basis in the first nine months. The energy consumption of the secondary and tertiary industry sectors rose by 1,6 and 4,9 percent, respectively, for the same periods. In the same period, an increase of 13,5 percent was recorded in the energy consumption of households on a yearly basis.

Considering the month of September, it is seen that the country's energy consumption increased by 0,9 percent compared to September of the previous year and reached 709,2 billion kilowatt-hours. Again in September, the energy consumption of primary and secondary industry sectors increased by 4,1 percent and 3,3 percent, respectively, while a decrease of 4,6 percent was detected in the use of tertiary industry.
