Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, within the scope of the activities of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the city, gave their certificates to the Victory Road caravan, which walked the 400-kilometer route between Afyon and Izmir. President Soyer said, “Your children and grandchildren will be very proud of this, but know this, you are history. In fact, you became a star for the future of this country by making the 100th anniversary parade.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, gave certificates to those who participated in the 100-kilometer Victory Road March, which started from Afyon Kocatepe and ended in Izmir on September 9, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the liberation of the city.

Speaking at the event at the Historical Coal Gas Factory Cultural Center, the President Tunç Soyer“I want to call you my brothers. Because you really allowed us to experience a feeling as strong as the bond of brotherhood. Good luck to you. I would like to thank each and every one of you," he said.

“We need to refresh our memory”

Reminding that he said, "What a lucky man I am, I will be the mayor of this city while celebrating the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir" during his candidacy, Mayor Soyer said, "We all experienced together on the 9th anniversary of September 100, how precious this is. Why did we want to celebrate the 100th anniversary with such enthusiasm? First, the 100th year corresponds to a very important time period in human life and in this universe. We live in such an age of speed that it is possible to forget 100 years ago. However, we need to refresh that memory. However, if our memory is fresh, if we know the memory of those 100 years well, it is possible to build a future. Secondly, they took away the enthusiasm, joy and fun of this nation. We wanted to remind that enthusiasm, that joy.”

“You are history”

President Soyer addressed the Victory Road marches and concluded his speech as follows: “Each of you walked that 400-kilometer route and experienced for yourself what a tremendous job our ancestors accomplished. Your children and grandchildren will be proud of it, but know this, you are history. Each of you has become a star for the future of this country. I want to thank you all with all my heart.”

After the speeches, President Soyer presented the certificates of a total of 372 people, including 122 licensed athletes, 269 citizens and 763 staff, who participated in the march from all over Turkey, to the team leaders.

The 24-day Victory March, which started from Afyon Derecine on August 14, ended on September 100, the 9th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir.
