The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry registered 24 thousand 872 pets, 393 thousand 771 of which are dangerous dogs, with microchip application.

Microchip technologies are also used to track wild or domestic animals around the world.

In order to prevent pets from getting involved in undesirable events in Turkey, microchip application was implemented for cats, dogs and ferrets kept at home.

In this context, a total of 1 thousand 2021 pets, including 162 thousand 75 cats, 231 thousand 685 dogs and 11 ferrets, have been microchipped and registered since January 393, 771.

With the Microchip application, the pet's name, passport number, breed, breed, gender, color, date of birth, owner's name, province, district, village/neighbourhood, and emergency contact information are recorded in the PetVet Registration System (PETVET).

In addition, information about vaccination, change of owner, loss status and operations performed on the animal are also recorded.

Those who do not identify and register their cats and dogs by the end of this year will be subject to an administrative fine of 5199 liras in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 of Law No. 1634.

24 DANGEROUS DOGS ARE REGISTERED

The Law on the Amendment of the Animal Protection Law and the Turkish Penal Code regarding the neutering and registration of dangerous dogs as well as pets entered into force on 14 July 2021.

In this context, it was requested that Pitbull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasilerio, American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bully breed dogs be neutered and included in the PETVET Registry System until 14 January 2022.

Across the country, 23 thousand 406 dogs of these breeds were registered.

Within the scope of the Circular on Dangerous Animals, the period given for the American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bully breed dogs that were conceived before December 7, 2021 to be expected to give birth and for the registration of the mothers and puppies to the PETVET Registration System by spaying at the end of the 4-month period is also 7 It expired in June 2022.

From January 15 to June 7, 1310 American Staffordshire Terrier and 156 American Bully breeds were registered. However, a total of 24 dangerous dogs have been identified and recorded so far.
