İzmir commemorated their losses on the second anniversary of the October 30 earthquake. For the 117 people who lost their lives in the earthquake, the most affected by the earthquake BayraklıA memorial service was held in The President attended the ceremony organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Tunç SoyerIn addition to the Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Yüksel Taşkın, CHP Party Assembly (PM) Member Devrim Barış Çelik, CHP İzmir Provincial President Deniz Yücel, CHP İzmir MPs Sevda Erdan Kılıç and Atila Sertel, Bayraklı Mayor Serdar Sandal, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality bureaucrats, council members, İzmir Earthquake Victims Solidarity Association (İZDEDA) President Haydar Özkan, earthquake victims families, representatives of political parties, associations and chambers attended.

The commemoration program started with the recitation of the Qur'an for the 117 lives lost in the earthquake and prayers for those who died. Later on Bayraklı Carnations were left on the Earthquake Monument in Hasan Ali Yücel Park. President Soyer came together with the relatives of the disappeared and took care of them one by one. As part of the commemoration program, a bite was also poured for those who lost their lives in the 30 October Earthquake Monument area.

“We are conducting scientific studies”

President Tunç SoyerStating that they still experience the pain of those who lost their lives, he said, “We are conducting scientific studies to make this city resilient. We have produced the earthquake records of 33 thousand 100 buildings, and we continue to work to get the earthquake records of around 60 thousand buildings. My dear professors are conducting the biggest geological study in the history of Turkey. They take pictures of Izmir's underground. We are a municipality that established the earthquake department before the earthquake. I hope our citizens and local administrators living all over Turkey will show this sensitivity. They come up with a solution to take precautions without waiting for an earthquake to happen," he said.

“Solidarity and hope need to be preserved”

President Soyer referred to the solidarity created after the earthquake and said, “Solidarity is something that raises hope. We saw it that day too. There is no example of solidarity in Izmir anywhere in Turkey. 30 days after the earthquake, there was no citizen living in the tent. After 30 days, we were able to find a place for everyone to lay their heads. We have furnished 224 houses in Uzundere within 1 month. We opened Hilton's 380 rooms. We made perhaps one of Turkey's biggest campaigns with the One Rent One Home Campaign. I'm not saying all this to brag. These are possible. It is possible to find a solution with solidarity. We live together in this land. That's why we have to take care of each other. There are more reasons that unite us than what separates us. We should not forget that," he said.

“They did not approve the loan, they left our citizens as victims”

Speaking about the Halk Konut project, which is an exemplary model for Turkey, Mayor Soyer said, “We are making our citizens the contractors of their own houses. How? Using public power. By using the possibilities of the municipalities, by eliminating the contractor's profit. With the full capacity of the Metropolitan Municipality, we create the opportunity for our citizens to build their own houses under the most favorable conditions. I have to submit a small complaint. As a result of a 4-month study from the World Bank, we took out a loan of 344 million dollars, with a 5-year grace period and a 25-year maturity. To be used in the construction of 6 thousand moderately damaged and slightly damaged buildings. Unfortunately, they did not use that loan and did not approve it. Our citizens have been victimized. Here, I would like to reiterate this point of mine. I am not speaking to complain. It's not our job to complain. We are concerned about how we can do more in the current conditions," he said.

Addressing the earthquake victims as well, Mayor Soyer concluded his words as follows: “I will continue to stand by your side as long as this soul stays in this body until the end. Let no one doubt. I will do whatever I can to the end.”

“We express our gratitude to Soyer”

Bayraklı Mayor Serdar Sandal emphasized that they all went through a difficult process together and said, “Our Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer For two years, no moment has left us alone. It is obvious that they have made an increase in precedents that will set an example for Turkey, Halk Konut project, ground survey and building inventory studies. We Bayraklı As a nation, we thank you. Thank you," he said.

“Always paved the way for us”

Haydar Özkan, President of İZDEDA Tunç SoyerHe thanked . I beg everyone in the Republic of Turkey, please do your best to make sure your children live in safe houses…”

Within the scope of the commemoration program, the experts of the subject and the representatives of the relevant professional chambers Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç SoyerHe talked about the importance of the work done by the city to make the city resilient.
