Rhododendron Honey Workshop Held at KTU

The honey obtained from the Rhododendron, known as Komar and Zifin in the Black Sea Region and which is the endemic flower species of the region, was the subject of a workshop at Karadeniz Technical University.

A Forest Rose Honey Workshop was held at the KTU Technology Transfer Application and Research Center with the initiative of the KTU Faculty of Science and the Turkish Beekeepers Association (TAB).

The Rhododendron Honey Workshop, which was organized under the leadership of Karadeniz Technical University researchers, which included the richness of the geography it is in, was held by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Hakan YILMAZ and Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ and Technology Transfer Application and Research Center Manager Prof. Dr. It was held with the participation of Oktay YILDIZ.

Within the scope of the workshop held at KTU Technology Transfer Application and Research Center, Rhododendron Honey; discussed in terms of socio-economic, apitherapeutic and characterization. To the program; In addition to expert academicians from Hacettepe University, Giresun University, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University and Bayburt University, the President of the Turkish Beekeepers' Central Union on behalf of public institutions, representatives of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry (TAGEM) and the Food Codex Department and representatives of the Trabzon Regional Directorate of Forestry attended. Beekeepers Union Presidents of Bolu, Samsun, Ordu Trabzon, Rize and Artvin provinces and Rhododendron Honey producers also followed the workshop program.

In the first session of the workshop; KTU Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry Lecturer Prof. Dr. Sevgi KOLAYLI and Faculty of Medicine Internal Medical Sciences Lecturer Prof. Dr. Abdülkadir GÜNDÜZ made a presentation on Rhododendron Honey. After the presentations, there was a discussion about the subject accompanied by the participants. In the second session of the program, a report was prepared by compiling the data obtained through the roundtable meetings. The report prepared at the end of the meeting; It included the decisions that the Rhododendron vegetation is very important for the region and that urgent action plans should be created in order to bring this value to the economy. The joint workshop report was submitted to the officials of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Health.
