Izmir 1st National Children's Workshop Started

The first National Child Workshop, organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in order to develop and implement children's rights, has started. At the end of the 3-day workshop, a “Child Policy Strategy Plan” will be created.

The 1st National Children's Workshop, organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Social Projects Department, started. Karşıyaka İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Social Projects Department Head Anıl Kaçar, academics and guests attended the three-day workshop held at Örnekköy Social Projects Campus.

“We carry out policies that consider the best interests of the child”

Mustafa Özuslu, Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who made the opening speech of the workshop, said that a city will reach the qualification of a city that can build its future as long as it can offer a beautiful and healthy living environment to its children. Özuslu said, “As İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, we carry out policies that consider the best interests of the child. We rely on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We continue our education and project activities under the supervision of the Children's Municipality Branch Directorate of the Social Projects Department, taking into account the principle of child participation. Children are the architects of humanity. As long as we don't take the light in their eyes, let's not stand in front of them, let's embrace them in every sense. I am sure that they will always surprise us with their tremendous development power and will allow us to see new horizons through their eyes.”

“Izmir is a city that has done very good work on this issue”

prof. Dr. Oğuz Polat also mentioned the importance of children's rights and said: “My body belongs to me. You can't do something to me that I don't want. This applies to both children and adults. It is the most basic human right. Within the scope of these human rights, we cannot hit a child under any other name or discipline. We have no right to this. Protecting his rights is one of the most fundamental works we have to do. İzmir does not start this issue from scratch. Izmir is a city that has done very good work in this regard. On top of that, it is a more organized, goal-oriented pursuit of 'how can we do it'.”
