“LITTLE WORK LEFT”

Speaking at the Gebze Darıca Metro Line Light Vision Ceremony, Mayor Büyükakın said, “This is a very important phase for the metro line that we are looking forward to. Hopefully, by the end of 2023, the part between Gebze Station and OSB will be completed. Trial studies on the train will be carried out in the spring. Towards the summer months of 2024, the distance between Darıca and Gebze Station will be completed. The work schedule was structured accordingly. 90 percent passed in the tunnels. There is little work left. May God grant us to finish these works without any accident and to serve our Gebze, Darıca and Kocaeli as soon as possible”.

55 thousand vehicles will be withdrawn from traffic

Emphasizing that the rapid progress of construction is a pleasing situation for them, Mayor Büyükakın said, “In an environment where the world is in a great crisis, investments have stopped and the growth rates of the economies have stopped, the works continue in Turkey, the constructions do not stop. Today, this means a serious progress, we are at a point where the opened tunnel converges. Putting the metro into operation means that a total of 55 thousand vehicles are withdrawn from the traffic. It means less traffic jams. It means fast, reliable and comfortable transportation. From this point of view, the withdrawal of 55 thousand vehicles from traffic is also very valuable in terms of emissions. It is very valuable in terms of environmental values. This will be a huge gain for our Gebze, Darıca and Kocaeli in the long run. It will also make a serious contribution to our country in terms of carbon zero targets. The vehicles to be used are autonomous vehicles, driverless vehicles. In that sense, a significant contribution is made. Significant localization rates were achieved in the construction. This is another pleasing side. Our country's metro construction capacity has also increased," he said.

“IT IS TARGET TO CARRY 320 THOUSAND PEOPLE IN TWO DIRECTIONS”

Stating that the 30.8 kilometer long metro will serve when calculated bidirectionally, Mayor Büyükakın said, “A very large storage area is being built. There is also a separate cost factor. A large warehouse and maintenance area, where the maintenance and repairs of the wagons of all those trains are made, is being built in the OSB region. It's a really big project. When you hit the kilometer cost in terms of today's construction costs, Turkey's, perhaps the world's cheapest metro construction is taking place. This is also a gratifying point for us. Its daily capacity will be 320 thousand people. It is aimed to carry 320 thousand people in two directions in one day. We anticipate that this capacity will be reached in the short term. Because we see that the first calculations and target calculations in rail systems are overtaken in a very short time. In places where the population is so dense, it is not possible to solve traffic problems in cases where metro systems are not built. Because, according to the transportation master plan we have made, the value of the journey will increase 2035 times until 4. It is not possible to increase the roads by 4 times, to expand to the side, to expand up and down. Therefore, the public transportation and rail system should be developed. Gebze OSB-Darıca Sahil Metro Line with a daily capacity of 330 thousand passengers will consist of 11 stations.
