The world of digital content met in Turkey's technology and innovation base, Informatics Valley. The Digital Animation and Game Cluster Center (DIGIAGE) located in the Valley will host game designers from 11 countries until September 51. At the DIGIAGE Next Summer Camp, which will host 600 participants at the international level, game developers will stay in tents to both produce and have fun. The camp where online participation is also possible; In addition to game designers, it brings together many components of the ecosystem such as software developers, digital cinema and animation film producers, and screenwriters.

THE GOAL IS TO DEVELOP THE ECOSYSTEM

DIGIAGE, which was established to support the Turkish game development ecosystem, aims to bring human resources to the sector, to be a bridge between the public and the sector, and to contribute to the development of game studios with the camps it organizes. After the winter camp of DIGIAGE held online, this time the Next Summer Camp with DIGIAGE Game is held in hybrid format.

PARTICIPATION FROM 51 COUNTRIES

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the summer camp, which will continue until September 11 in Informatics Valley, brought game developers from all over the world together in the valley.

51 game designers from 72 countries participated in the camp, where online participation applications were received from all over the world.

WILL MEET WITH INVESTORS

Informatics Valley General Manager A. Serdar İbrahimcioğlu stated that they have been organizing DIGIAGE camps since 2019 to develop the digital animation and game ecosystem and said, “Our participants will receive training on game development, graphic design and scenario production for 10 days. We will bring our entrepreneur candidates together with investors with the demoday we will hold on the last day.” said.

TARGET MORE PARTICIPANTS

Noting that they opened the camp physically to the international community for the first time this year, İbrahimcioğlu said, “Our goal is to bring more game developers together at the DIGIAGE Summer Camps in Turkey's Informatics Valley in the coming years.” he said.

MULTI CULTURAL

Pointing out that the camp has an international dimension, İbrahimcioğlu said that they took care to bring together participants from different cities and countries while forming the teams, and said, “In other words, the teams actually came together not only from different cities and not only from different people in the same city, but also with an international concept, not only multidisciplinary but also multi-cultural. They will become teams.” said.

THEY EXPLAINED THEIR GOALS

Fatma Erdem, one of the participants, stated that she studied in the cartoon and animation department at Selçuk University and said, “I am 20 years old. I want to be able to make a game with the visuals and story I want from here.” Mustafa Kemal Oğuz said, “I come from Ankara. I went to the 2nd year of computer engineering at Çankaya University. I look forward to improving myself and acquiring the environment. I aim to interact and network with people who are currently working in the industry.” used his statements.

I WANTED TO SEE THE ENVIRONMENT

Hacettepe University Computer Engineering student Ebrar Cırık said, “I don't have much technical knowledge yet, but I thought I'd join to see the environment. I don't have any definite dreams yet. I'm trying to get to know the industry since I'm only second year. Since these types of organizations inform people while they are still students, we can develop ourselves at this age.” He expressed his feelings in words.

I AM HERE TO KNOW MY PROFESSION

İclal Sohan, a student of Istanbul Aydın University Digital Game Design Department, one of the camp participants, said, “I am here to get to know my department, to see the working potential of the people here, and to discover software algorithms at the same time. My expectation from here is to be able to get to know my own profession first.” made its assessment.

600 PARTICIPANTS

About 600 software developers, designers, screenwriters, publishers, students, advertisers and executives in the game ecosystem take part in the camp. The designers, who will come together physically and online with the understanding of global cooperation, will design their projects and present them to the international jury during the 10-day camp. It will show itself by producing in three categories: Game Scenario-Text, Game Character Design-Graphic Animation and Game Mechanics-Software.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Midcore and console projects, especially HyperCasual games, and new generation content ideas such as metaverse, blockchain, NFT and VR game projects will also come to life at the camp. Around 50 teams are expected to design over 70 games at the camp, and some of the new game ideas that the teams come up with will be supported by DIGIAGE. Thanks to these opportunities, international connection and workforce sharing will be ensured. The game production power that Turkey offers to the world will grow and design export opportunities will emerge. It will allow new studios to emerge.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM THE TEACHERS

Volunteers participating in the camp and lecturers of the digital game design departments of universities will answer the questions of the designers face-to-face and online during the program. It will help participants improve their content by making comments on their designs. The participant will both have fun and produce by staying in the tents.
