The SAT consortium led by Alstom, also consisting of Thales and Sofratesa, has won a contract for the engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of a communications-based train control (CBTC) solution for the expansion of Line 1 of the Panama Metro.
Alstom will present the Urbalis 1 solution for the approximately 2,2 km extension of Line 400, which will connect San Isidro Station with the new Villa Zaíta terminal station. Currently, Panama Metro's Line 1 will serve an average of 230.000 passengers per day after the new extension is completed.
Panama's Line 1 is now approximately 16km long and has 2014 stations (8 underground) that entered service in 14, and Alstom Metropolis trains and Alstom's Urbalis 400 relies on the train control system. “Alstom is proud to once again be a part of the history of the Panama Metro and contribute to improving the quality of life of Panamanians by providing cutting-edge solutions for smart, safe and sustainable mobility,” said Iván Moncayo, Managing Director.
The extension of Line 1 to Villa Zaíta aims to establish a terminal station at the northern end of Line 1 with a capacity of more than 10.000 passengers during rush hour and to construct a bus interchange that can serve more than 8.000 passengers during rush hour.
