World leader in green and smart mobility, Alstom and Saudi Railway Company (SAR) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop tailored hydrogen train solutions for Saudi Arabia.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr Khaled ALHARBI, Senior Vice President of SAR Operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Mohamed KHALIL, Managing Director of Alstom Saudi Arabia, following a series of meetings where both sides increasingly discussed access to seamless, secure access. integrated and sustainable public transport services.

The aim is to explore opportunities for the future of sustainable mobility in Saudi Arabia and to work actively to develop and implement solutions related to railway infrastructure and capacity in line with Vision 2030.

With this MOU, Alstom reaffirmed its ambition to create global mobility champions rooted in Saudi Arabia and to establish a long-term partnership with Saudi Arabian Railways.

“This partnership is an opportunity for Alstom to enhance our cooperation with Saudi Arabian Railways and work together to meet the Kingdom's mobility needs as we implement Vision 2030. The focus on sustainable mobility solutions, including hydrogen technology, is "diversification and economic growth of the kingdom," said Mama SOUGOUFARA, Managing Director of Alstom's MENAT region (Middle East, North Africa and Turkey).

Alstom first came to Saudi Arabia in 1951 when it installed its first gas turbine. Since then, the global mobility leader has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the region's transport infrastructure. To date, the company remains a leading supplier of sustainable mobility solutions in the UK, thanks to its investment in rail transport systems.

Recently, Saudi Arabia also announced its commitment to Net Zero by 2060, making it one of the first countries in the region to do so. Sustainable transport infrastructure, such as rail transport, will play a key role in achieving the country's sustainability goals as it prepares to create a more sustainable future for its citizens and the region.
