On the centennial of the Great Offensive Victory, one of the greatest heroic epics of history, the Victory Road caravan marching from Kocatepe to Izmir reached Salihli on the 11th day of the historical journey.

The Victory March, organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to commemorate the city's 100th anniversary of liberation, proceeds towards Izmir, passing through the settlements where the important turning points of the liberation struggle were experienced. Celebrating the liberation days of Afyonkarahisar, Banaz, Uşak, Eşme, Ulubey, Kula and Alaşehir together with the local people, the convoy arrived in Salihli, where they heralded the liberation of the glorious Turkish cavalry on September 5, 1922, on the second day of the Manisa stage. Alaşehir Mayor Ahmet Öküzcüoğlu and veterans bid farewell to Salihli.

Enthusiastic welcome in Salihli

The people greeted the convoy with flags that marched to the Salihli district center by advancing on the train line. Visiting the 150-year-old Salihli Train Station, which hosted Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, İsmet İnönü, Fevzi Çakmak and Fahrettin Altay many times, the machinists on the İzmir-Uşak expedition greeted the train whistle.

Participating in the commemoration ceremonies held at the Salihli Martyr Mehmetçik Monument, the group also participated in the history talk held in the evening. Celal Bayar University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Nurettin Gülmez's talk on “Towards İzmir: Salvation of Salihli” enlivened the camp evening.
