Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the share of transportation in Mavi Vatan has increased and said, “The amount of cargo handled at our ports in the 8 months of this year increased by 5,6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and the amount of containers handled increased by 365 percent. It amounted to 162 million 1,7 thousand TEUs,” he said.

Pointing out that maritime transport, which plays an important role in world trade, has developed in Turkey in the last 20 years, Karaismailoğlu said, “We are adding strength to our strength in Mavi Vatan with the investments we have made in the maritime sector. We also see the contribution of these investments to the economy and our trade. In the January-August period, the amount of cargo handled at our ports increased by 5,6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 365 million 162 thousand tons. The amount of containers handled increased by 1,7 percent in the same period and reached 8 million 408 thousand TEU. In the 2022-month period of 8, foreign trade shipments increased by 4,2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 264 million 644 thousand tons. While the number of ships calling at our ports was 597, the number of cruise passengers visiting our ports was 552 thousand 581. The number of vehicles transported on regular Ro-Ro lines with international connections increased by 13,9% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 475 thousand 326 units.

THE AMOUNT OF CONTAINERS SUBJECT TO FOREIGN TRADE INCREASED 4.7 PERCENT

Noting that in August, the amount of containers handled at the ports decreased by 1,3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and amounted to 1 million 40 thousand TEUs, Karaismailoğlu said, “The amount of foreign traded containers handled at our ports in August increased by 4,7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 819 thousand. It went up to 971 TEU. Container loadings for export purposes increased by 3,3 percent to 416 thousand 904 TEUs, while container unloading for import purposes increased by 6,2 percent to 403 thousand 68 TEUs. The amount of containers handled in cabotage increased by 8,8 percent to 78 thousand 299 TEUs. The amount of transit containers handled decreased by 28,8 percent to 142 thousand 393 TEUs.

THE MOST CONTAINER HANDLING WAS HELD AT AMBARLI REGIONAL PORT MANAGEMENT

Underlining that the highest amount of container handling was realized in the administrative borders of Ambarlı Regional Port Authority in August with 242 thousand 281 TEUs, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said that Ambarlı Regional Port Authority was chosen by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 180 thousand 425 TEU and Tekirdağ Regional Port Authority with 158 thousand 182 TEU. He stated that he was following. Noting that the amount of cargo handled at the ports in the same month decreased by 1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 45 million 414 thousand tons, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu continued his statement as follows:

“The amount of loading for export purposes at our ports increased by 2,4 percent to 13 million 410 thousand tons, while the amount of unloading for import purposes decreased by 4,5 percent to 20 million 33 thousand tons. Foreign trade shipments decreased by 1,8% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 33 million 443 thousand 563 tons. Transit freight shipments by sea decreased by 1 percent and amounted to 6 million 205 thousand tons. The amount of cargo carried in cabotage increased by 5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with 765 million 4,1 thousand tons.

MOST CARGO HANDLING HAS BEEN ACHIEVED AT KOCAELİ REGIONAL PORT MANAGEMENT

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu underlined that the highest amount of cargo handling was 7 million 249 thousand tons in August at the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Kocaeli Regional Port Authority and said, “Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 6 million 824 thousand tons and Aliağa Regional Port Authority and 5 Ceyhan Regional Port Authority followed with a million 610 thousand tons. With an increase of 677 thousand 859 tons of coke and coke, it was the type of cargo that showed the highest increase in handling quantities compared to the previous month. In exports by sea, the highest amount of cargo handling was realized in transportation to America with 1 million 413 thousand tons. America; Italy and Israel followed suit. The highest amount of cargo handling in imports was realized in shipments from Russia with 7 million 108 thousand tons. Russia; Shipments from America and Iraq followed. Considering the cargo types of the cargo handled at our ports, the highest amount of handling was liquid bulk cargo with 14 million 212 thousand tons in August. The amount of handling of liquid bulk cargoes increased by 9,5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
