The Foundation of the World's Longest High Speed Train Tunnel Was Laid

The groundbreaking ceremony of the main section of the Yiliang Tunnel, an important part of the Chongqing-Kunming High Speed Railway project in southwest China, was held today.

With the completion of the world's longest high-speed train tunnel, another important step in China's infrastructure will be passed. The left line of the Yiliang Tunnel will be 24.78 kilometers long, and the right line will be 24.8 kilometers long. The tunnel is considered the longest high-speed rail tunnel in the world.

The Yiliang Tunnel is located in Yanjin County and Yiliang County, Yunnan Province. The buried depth of the tunnel, which is located in an area with high mountains, deep valleys and steep terrain, will be approximately 920 meters. Engineering methods, which are used for the first time in the world, were implemented in the land, which is prone to earthquakes, landslides, karst, rock explosions and major deformations of soft rocks.

After the completion of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway, it will further develop the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network, strengthen the link between the Chengdu-Chongqing economic environment and the central Yunnan urban agglomeration, greatly reducing the rail travel time.
