Ankara Metropolitan Municipality organized a cup match in memory of the late sports writer and journalist Ali Öcal, one of the veteran names of the capital's press.
The meaningful match between ABB FOMGET Youth and Sports Club and Karadeniz Ereğli Belediyespor was broadcast live on ABB TV and social media accounts. At the end of the match, which ended with FOMGET's 4-3 victory, the athletes took the trophy from Ali Öcal's son Burak Öcal.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to organize various sports events to increase the interest of the citizens of the capital in sports.
ABB organized a cup match in memory of the late sports writer and journalist Ali Öcal, one of the veteran names of the Capital press. FOMGET won the meaningful match 4-3, where ABB FOMGET Youth and Sports Club and Karadeniz Ereğli Belediyespor faced each other at Yenikent Osmanlı Stadium.
Successful athletes of FOMGET received the trophy from Ali Öcal's son Burak Öcal.
IT WILL CONTINUE IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS
ABB Deputy Secretary General Baki Kerimoğlu, Ankara Amateur Sports Clubs Federation President Murat Kandazoğlu, the late Ali Öcal's son Burak Öcal, many guests and sports-loving fans attended the match, which was broadcast live on ABB TV and social media accounts.
Baki Kerimoğlu, Deputy Secretary General of ABB, who came to watch the cup match, said, “Today, we organized a tournament in memory of the esteemed elder of our Ankara, Ali Öcal. He is an example to all of us with his life, personality and lifestyle. Today was a good match with Ereğlispor. We won the game with a last minute goal. We are very happy about it. In the coming years, we will continue the tournament on behalf of Ali Hoca.”
ÖCAL: “SHOW THAT THE STRUGGLE WERE NOT IN vain”
Making a statement after the ceremony, Burak Öcal thanked the Metropolitan Municipality, clubs and managers for the cup, and said, “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this meaningful tournament organized on behalf of my father. I think my father put a lot of effort and struggle on behalf of Ankara Spor. Keeping my father's name alive in such meaningful tournaments shows that these struggles were not in vain. This honors us as the Öcal family.”
Ankara Amateur Sports Clubs Federation President Murat Kandazoğlu expressed his thoughts with the following words:
“It is really meaningful that such a tournament was held on behalf of Ali Hoca. Ali Hodja has made efforts both for our country and for Ankara with a sports tendency. He is a person who has spent all his capital on Ankara and the youth. Thank you for organizing such a tournament on his behalf. It is very meaningful that FOMGET Sports Club organizes such a tournament on his behalf today. It is also very important for our girls to receive trophies on behalf of Ali Hoca.”

ABB FOMGET Women's Football Team Technical Officer Kezban Gülşen Eşkin, who contributed to the trophy, said, “Today's match is to commemorate our esteemed brother Ali Öcal. Our brother, who has worked for amateur sports and women's sports for years, has increased his value. It is an honor for us to commemorate him here”, while athlete Fatoş Yıldırım expressed his feelings with these words:
“It is a very special trophy for us. We are very happy that we won the trophy. Ali Hoca is a valuable journalist in Ankara. We raised the trophy for him, our hearts are always with him.”
