Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant, located in Wafangdian, Dalian city in the center of Liaoning province in northeast China, is the largest electric energy investment project in the northeast.

With the full commissioning of 6 power units recently, the Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant has become the largest nuclear power plant in China and the third largest in the world, with a total capacity of 6,7 million kilowatts.

This winter, residents of Hongyanhe Town will benefit from nuclear-powered heating, thanks to this first nuclear-powered heating project in the country's northeast. Within the scope of the project, which is more efficient than the traditional coal-fired heating method and does not emit carbon emissions, an area of ​​242,4 square meters is planned to be heated this winter.

Since the commissioning of the power units 90 and 5 in the second phase of the project, which was realized with an investment of approximately 6 billion yuan, the power units that have been operating steadily have increased the rate of clean energy, while optimizing the energy structure in the northeast region, providing 'green motivation' for the economic development in the region.

It has been calculated that if the 6 power units operate at full capacity, the annual electricity generation can reach 20 billion kWh, meeting about 48 percent of the total social electricity consumption in Liaoning province. Thus, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will be reduced by approximately 39 million 930 thousand tons. This is equivalent to 145 thousand hectares of forest planting by reducing the standard coal consumption by 20 million 108 thousand tons.
