IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluparticipated in the program organized by Tuzla Fisheries Federation for the new hunting season. Meeting with the fishermen from Tuzla, İmamoğlu stopped by the horon with the folklore team and offered fish and bread at the fish counter. Wishing the fishermen a prosperous season by saying 'Vira Bismillah', İmamoğlu said, "May the roads be open... Have a good hunting season... Have plenty of fruitfulness... I hope we have as cheap fish as possible on the table of our people, with a process where costs are reduced."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluparticipated in the program organized by Tuzla Fisheries Federation due to the end of the fishing ban. İmamoğlu, who did not refuse the invitation of the folklore team who performed the horon show at the event, joined them and stood at the horon. Speaking at the ceremony, İmamoğlu said that the issue of protecting the seas should be addressed holistically, from the way it is used to the settlement around it. Referring to the structure of the Marmara Sea, İmamoğlu said, “In the discipline of the Marmara Sea and the Straits, there is a series of water flowing from the Black Sea to the Marmara and the Aegean. He walks with incredible discipline. You know, God's will is a magnificent order. But at the same time, we are in an environment where we need to be meticulous and think a lot. The Sea of Marmara is not a sea into which we can fill everything. Or the straits are not areas to be left unattended in that sense. Points to be treated sensitively,” he said.

“ONE OF EVERY THREE PEOPLE LIVES AROUND THE SEA OF MARMARA”

Noting that he knows closely the sensitivity of fishermen on the sea and sea creatures, İmamoğlu continued his words as follows:

“Do you know why the Marmara Sea is in trouble? We have a population of 28 million living on the shores of the Marmara Sea. From Bursa to Istanbul, from Kocaeli to Tekirdağ and even as a basin, 28 million until you reach Balıkesir… It still receives immigration. This means that almost one in three people live around the Sea of Marmara. This is so scary. This is not something manageable. If we continue like this, our grandchildren will curse us a hundred years later. We can make people live in their own living spaces instead of Marmara in Turkey's order, from urbanism to environmental protection, from life in the city.

If we treat the seas well, they will treat us well

Stating that everyone has responsibilities for the protection of the fish population in the seas, İmamoğlu said, “The more generous we are to the Straits, the Marmara and the Black Sea, the more generous they will be to us. As we all have a responsibility in this regard, there are many services from industry to our streams and rivers, from past to present in Istanbul, but we are making efforts to reach Istanbul's biological and advanced biological treatment facilities as soon as possible. We will put one of the biggest ones into service in Tuzla after about a month and a half. We have other structures from Baltalimanı to Yenikapı. The work in this sense must continue uninterrupted. At this point, we will continue to work on eliminating all the shortcomings of Istanbul, especially in terms of waste water, together with the projects that we will lay new foundations for in the coming days. It's a way to improve the water quality of our seas. But there is another way. I would like to underline that the control of the rivers coming from the industrial zones coming from the Bursa region is also very important for the disciplines in the agricultural fields - in this sense, the rivers coming from both Ergene Valley and Balıkesir.

OUR SUPPORT WILL CONTINUE

Stating that Turkey is one of the countries that consume the least fish despite being surrounded by seas on three sides, Mayor İmamoğlu mentioned the financial and in-kind support provided by IMM to fishermen. İmamoğlu said, “We continued to increase our support, especially to our small-scale fishermen, in 2020, 2021 and 2022. We have provided and will continue to contribute to approximately 300 fishermen, both in kind and in cash, as well as boat maintenance and different needs.”

Wishing all fishermen a trouble-free fishing season in his speech, İmamoğlu said, “I say screw bismillah to all our fishermen. May their roads be open... May it be a good hunting season... May it be abundantly fruitful... I hope that we will have as cheap fish as possible on the table of our people with a process where costs are reduced."

FEDERATION PRESIDENT ÇAKIROĞLU: “I WISH A SEASON WITH LOTS OF FISH”

Taner Çakıroğlu, President of Tuzla Fisheries Federation, who spoke at the ceremony, also expressed his thoughts about the new fishing season, “As the management, we are always with our fishermen. We will always walk side by side with our fishermen, arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder. I wish all our fishermen family a safe, healthy, fruitful, very successful season with plenty of fish, from the Almighty God.
