The value measured when blood is pumped from the heart is systolic blood pressure (systolic blood pressure), the blood pressure value measured when the heart is not pumping blood is diastolic (diastolic) blood pressure.

  • Normal value for systolic blood pressure (systolic blood pressure) value is 120-129 mmHg
  • Diastolic blood pressure (for diastolic blood pressure) normal value should be 80-84 mmHg

What are the Symptoms of Hypertension Disease?

Things to Consider in the Nutrition of Hypertension Patients

If hypertension patients have excess weight, they should definitely reach their ideal weight. When they include physical activity in their lives by eating a sufficient and balanced diet, their blood pressure increases will decrease. Along with a balanced diet, salt restriction should be made in meals. It has been proven in studies that blood pressure increases with sodium (salt) consumption. Consumption of canned products and packaged foods is not recommended because the salt content of packaged ready-to-eat foods is high. The amount of daily salt consumption should not exceed 5 grams. Calcium and potassium intake should be increased. It has been observed that the blood pressure of those who are fed low in calcium is higher than those who are fed with calcium. For this reason, the consumption of milk, yoghurt and cheese should be increased in patients with hypertension. Foods with high fiber content (fruit, vegetables, legumes) should be included in the diet. Fish with high omega-3 content should be consumed 2 days a week. Instead of consuming trans fats such as margarine, vegetable oil consumption should be increased, and olive oil should be preferred.

What are the foods that hypertension patients should not consume?

  • Deep-fried foods
  • Foods with high fat content (prepackaged foods, mayonnaise, salad dressings, cream, etc.)
  • Offal (tripe, trotter, liver, etc.)
  • Margarine

  • Fast Food
