After the Russia-Ukraine War, the USA and European Union states imposed a series of economic sanctions and embargoes on Russia. Russia responded to the sanctions by closing the Nord Stream 1 line, from which it supplies gas to Europe. With the cut off of natural gas and electricity, prices skyrocketed in Europe. The French government has started savings across the country for the winter.

The price of natural gas in Europe increased by 30 percent. Like other European states, France entered into an energy and natural gas crisis. The price of electricity in the country for the next year has increased by 5 times.

Due to the energy shortage in France, it was stated that the government would reduce train services. Transport Minister Clement Beaune also sent instructions to companies engaged in rail, air, road and sea transport to prepare their savings plans for the winter period.

It was stated that the energy consumed by SNCF, the railway company of the French State, in its fleet of 1000 High Speed Train and 14 thousand Regional Express Transport per day, corresponds to 1 to 2 percent of the annual electricity consumption of France. However, it was pointed out that this rate is more than the annual electricity consumption of the capital Paris and Marseille.

FRANCE CONTINUES MEASURES

While the French government announced the electricity and natural gas support package, it started blackout in cities. However, some schools in the Normandy region will start burning wood to save natural gas for heating.

According to another planned austerity measure, billboards with their lights on at night will be closed, and people will be able to go to work by using a shared car.
