Izmir Metropolitan Municipality celebrates the European Mobility Week with awareness activities. Metropolitan Municipality staff went to school by bicycle with the students of Cumhuriyet Primary School in Selçuk.

Continuing its efforts to make the city sustainable, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its activities within the scope of the 16-22 September European Mobility Week. The Metropolitan Municipality staff went to school by bicycle with the students of Selçuk Cumhuriyet Primary School to raise awareness. In the “Pedal to School” event, which was held with the participation of local non-governmental organizations, student groups formed under the supervision of parents met at a certain point and pedaled to school with balloons and flowers. On Saturday, September 17, 2022, bicycle groups met at Konak Pier and organized a ride to İnciraltı Urban Forest.

İzmir Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan will be introduced

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will introduce the Izmir Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP Izmir), which it carries out with the European Union (EU), on the last day of the September 16-22 European Mobility Week. Head of EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Meyer-Landrut, hosted the meeting, hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor. Tunç Soyer will undertake. The SUMP Izmir support project, financed by the Republic of Turkey and the EU, aims to contribute to the livability and sustainability of the city through safer, cleaner, accessible and cheaper mobility. SUMP İzmir, which has stages such as scoping and collecting human-oriented mobility data, strategy development, creating action plans and capacity building, will be completed in 2 years. The plan will be a strategic document and will enable the institution to find international loans more easily and to improve its institutional capacity. The plan, which focuses on common sense, will be created with 200 stakeholders, from non-governmental organizations in the city to professional chambers.

The contract for the EU Support for the Izmir Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan Project was signed on June 21, 2022, between an international consortium of companies from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Turkey, and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of EU and Foreign Relations, the EU Investments Department.

BISIMs are free on Car Free City Day

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will celebrate the Car-Free City Day on September 22, the last day of the European Mobility Week, which will be promoted with activities throughout the week, after the SUMP launch. Gaziosmanpaşa Boulevard, which will be closed to traffic on the ninth Car-Free City Day held in İzmir, will be the address of activities that will last all day long, from children's yoga to zumba, from the slowest bike tournament to the thai-tay bike tournament. On the Car Free City Day, BISIM bicycles will serve free of charge.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality staff will come to work by bicycle on September 19-20-21 in order to spread awareness throughout the city.
