In the rehabilitation centers established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP), 10 thousand 38 wild animals injured for various reasons in the last 631 years have been treated and rehabilitated, and left to their natural environment.

In 2022, 12 out of 596 wild animals were reintroduced to nature. While treatment of 7 of them continues, 784 wild animals were placed in zoos.

Treatment and rehabilitation centers are established for wild animals in need of care and treatment due to natural disasters, environmental problems, injury and being left unattended, in accordance with the 'Regulation on the Establishment, Management and Supervision of Hunting and Wild Animal Breeding Sites and Stations and Rescue Centers' and international conventions. While wild animals were treated with protocols made by universities, zoos, municipalities and non-governmental organizations in the early 2000s, the center established by the ministry became active in 2010. After the Bursa Celal Acar Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, the first rescue and rehabilitation center established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, started to serve, treatment and rehabilitation began to be carried out more comprehensively. Rescue centers have been built in 11 provinces, namely Afyonkarahisar, Bursa, Diyarbakır, Konya, Şanlıurfa, Mersin, Sinop, Kars, Van, Rize and Hatay, within the scope of the Ministry's goal of establishing a wild animal rescue and rehabilitation center within each regional directorate.
