The Victory and Remembrance March from Afyon to Izmir, organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the city, continues with surprise visits. Poet and writer Sunay Akın bid farewell to the 59-kilometer Uşak stage of the walking group, which completed the Afyon and Kütahya stages.

On the 100th anniversary of the Great Offensive, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality convoy, which set off from Afyon Kocatepe, the symbol of the nation's independence, is advancing to Izmir step by step. The Victory Road group, which participated in the 9-kilometer historical march that will end in Izmir on September 400, passed from Dumlupınar Zafertepe to Uşak Banaz, where Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha personally led and directed the Dumlupınar Pitched Battle. After completing the Afyon, Kütahya stage, the poet and writer Sunay Akın bid farewell to the 59 kilometer Uşak stage. Visiting the Yıldırım Kemal camp with a surprise, the artist took lots of souvenir photos with the hikers.

New stops: Derbent, Kızılhisar and Gögüm

Participating in the August 30 Victory Day ceremonies held in Dumlupınar in the morning, the Metropolitan convoy marched over the Banaz Büyükoturak village to Kaplangı Mountain, where the most difficult battles were experienced, heralding the liberation of the villages and towns in the Gediz Valley and Banaz Plain. The new stops of the group, which spent the night in Evrendede camp, will be Derbent, Kızılhisar and Göğem.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerstarted the march from Afyon Derecine by lighting the torch of the historical march on 24 August. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), also participated in the 14-kilometer Çakırözü-Kocatepe stage of the march. The last stop of the 400-kilometer Victory and Remembrance March will be the liberation ceremonies of Izmir, which will be held on the morning of September 9 at Cumhuriyet Square.
