MINISTER KRISCI: AGRICULTURE HAS BECOME MORE IMPORTANT

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci pointed out that recent events in the world have made agriculture even more important.

Stating that the understanding of the agricultural sector has gradually changed with the effect of industrialization, urbanization, trade, R&D and other related factors in the last century, Kirişci said, “While yesterday, production-oriented agriculture was focused on market and consumer preference; What was done yesterday for local and regional markets is today done for national and global markets. Although consumer preferences change rapidly, especially due to urbanization and increase in welfare, this change increases the problems a little, but it also brings wide opportunities. used his statements.

Kirişci underlined that events such as the pandemic, drought process and the Russia-Ukraine crisis clearly reveal the strategic value of agriculture. Noting that all these developments have shown everyone once again that agriculture is the right investment area, Kirişci made the following assessment:

“According to the 2050 projections, we expect the world population to reach 10 billion and our country's population to reach 100 million. We see that the number of tourists, which reached 50 million in the past years and decreased due to the pandemic, has increased even more. Therefore, there are new opportunities and new springs before us for these lands where agriculture started and civilizations took shape.

Thanks to correct and planned investments, both agricultural production will increase and agriculture-industry integration will become stronger. Thus, the rate of conversion of investment into profit and the growth in the amount will directly reflect on the development of our country.”

Stating that Turkey will continue to be the pioneer of agriculture in the new situation, Minister Kirişci noted that the Department of Supply Security, established within the ministry, will perform a strategic task.
