Journalist Hamdi Türkmen was bid farewell to his last journey

Journalist Hamdi Türkmen was sent off on his last journey with a funeral ceremony held today. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, who attended the funeral, expressed his condolences to Türkmen's family and loved ones.

Journalist-Writer Hamdi Türkmen, who succumbed to cancer he had been fighting for a long time, was bid farewell to his last journey today. The first ceremony for Hamdi Türkmen was held at the Izmir Journalists' Association at the Historical Gas Factory. Türkmen's wife Meltem and daughter Derin Türkmen, as well as İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, İzmir Journalists Association President Dilek Gappi, deputies, mayors, journalists and friends attended the ceremony.

“He was a very good journalist”

Speaking at the ceremony, Dilek Gappi stated that they lost an important name and said, “Whatever we say, whatever we say will be insufficient now. It also seems strange to tell each other about Hamdi Turkmen to us journalists. Everyone who has many years in the press profession knows him. The number of people who cross paths and coincide is quite high. I am glad that our paths crossed and I got to know a good journalist and a very good editor-in-chief.”

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu also expressed his sadness and said: “We lost one of the most important names of the İzmir press. He was a very good journalist, a very good person, a good brother. May he rest in the light."

“Hamdi did not sell his pen”

His wife, Meltem Türkmen, said, “How happy it is to hear these beautiful conversations. Hamdi did not sell his pen. He never made any concessions to anyone. He was a Kemalist. He tried to do his job properly until his last breath. He was a fanatic Göztepe native. He was a very good manager. He was a very good friend, a friend, a very good wife, an excellent father. Thank you for sharing our pain."

They shared their memories

In the ceremony; IYI Party Group Deputy Chairman and İzmir Deputy Musavat Dervişoğlu, Konak Mayor Abdul Batur, Karabağlar Mayor Muhittin Selvitopu, Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay, İzmir Chamber of Craftsmen and Craftsmen Union President Zekeriya Mutlu, Journalist Erdal İzgi, CHP ex-deputy Mehmet Ali Susam, former President of İzmir Journalists Association Misket Dikmen, Journalist Erol Yaraş, expressed their condolences to his fans and family by telling his memories of Hamdi Türkmen.

A ceremony was held for Hamdi Türkmen at Göztepe Sports Club. The body of the Turkmen will be buried in the Karabağlar Pasha Bridge Cemetery after the noon prayer that will be held at the Hamidiye Mosque in Küçükyalı.
