Intense Interest in Medicinal Aromatic Plant Breeding Course

The trainees who participated in the Medicinal Aromatic Plant Breeding Course organized by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality to introduce alternative production models with high economic value to the producers brought the plants together with the soil in the greenhouse.

The Medicinal Aromatic Plant Breeding Course, organized by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department to raise awareness of the producers and to open new employment areas with the aim of local development, attracts great attention. Trainees who want to produce in the field of aromatic plant cultivation such as thyme, basil, lavender, rosemary, sage, carob, laurel receive theoretical and practical training.

First Training Then Planting

In the course organized by the Department of Agricultural Services, Department of Crop Production and Education, the trainees learn about the characteristics of plants, their cultivation, care, harvest, threshing and storage. First of all, the technical details of plant cultivation are explained in the course. After the theoretical information, the training of the medicinal aromatic plants such as seeding, cutting, planting and planting applications are shown to the trainees in the field.

Employment Path with Certificate

In this context, the trainees who participated in the Medicinal Aromatic Plant Breeding Course received hands-on training in the greenhouses of the Metropolitan Municipality in Döşemealtı. Stating that people's interest in medicinal and aromatic plants is increasing day by day, Agricultural Engineer Nida Kalkan, who works at the Department of Agricultural Services, Department of Plant Production and Education, said, "Our course consists of 72 hours of theoretical and practical lessons. We explain the processes such as planting plants, preparing the soil, planting, care and harvesting in detail to our trainees. We carry out the theoretical knowledge explained in the classroom practically in the production greenhouses. At the end of the course, a training certificate approved by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) will be given. The trainees will have a profession by providing a new source of income with the education they receive. With this certificate, plant breeding can also be done as a profession”.

I Will Convert Information To Profit

İlkay Eşsiz, one of the trainees, said that he wanted to turn what he learned in the course into income in business life and said, “I learned a lot about plants whose names we know only until now. I learned how plants are grown and where they are used. When I get my certificate at the end of the course, I want to contribute to my family budget by renting a small area and growing aromatic plants.”

It Was A Healthy Course

Trainee İsmail Seyrek, who said, “We saw what we can grow on the balcony of our house or in a small garden,” said, “Working with plants and soil is both a useful hobby and beneficial for health. I got information about how plants are planted, irrigated, grown, in short, how their agriculture is done. Today, we have brought the plant seedlings that we have been trained in, with the soil with our own hands," he said.
