İmamoğlu Speaks About Metro Lines Allegedly Stopped

3 TBMs operating on the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe metro line with 2 stations and a length of 11 kilometers, which will serve a population of approximately 13 million in 4 districts, have completed all tunnel excavation works. İmamoğlu, who watched the last TBM's unearthing on the spot, was asked by journalists, "What is the latest situation on the lines where the allegations that it was stopped in the public opinion?", "There is no line that we have stopped. Pendik-Kaynarca-Tuzla line and Kirazlı-Halkalı The reason for the suspension of the line is as follows: As you know, the Presidency has issued a circular and the contractors regarding the works that fall below 10 percent completion can terminate their unilateral contracts. The contractors used these rights even though we didn't want them to. They carried out what was required by the President's decision, not ours.” İmamoğlu underlined that they will continue on their way by going out to tender for both lines in the near future.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlumade examinations on the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe metro line, where all tunnel excavations have been completed. The construction site of the line in Göztepe 60th Yıl Park, where the rail laying will start, Kadıköy Visiting together with Mayor Şerdil Dara Odabaşı and Mayor of Kartal Gökhan Yüksel, İmamoğlu received information about the stage of the project from IBB Deputy Secretary General Pelin Alpkökin. Following the unloading of the last TBM (tunnel boring machine) that carried out the excavation, İmamoğlu gave the following answer to the question of journalists, "What is the latest situation on the lines where the allegations that it was stopped in the public opinion":

“NO LINES THAT WE STOP”

“There is no line that we have stopped. Two of the lines; Pendik-Kaynarca-Tuzla line and Kirazlı-Halkalı The reason for the suspension of the line is as follows: As you know, the Presidency has issued a circular and the contractors regarding the works that fall below 10 percent completion can terminate their unilateral contracts. Kirazli-Halkalı and the Pendik-Kaynarca-Tuzla line was also below this rate, one with a very small limit. And the contractors used these rights even though we didn't want them. They carried out what was required by the President's decision, not ours. We are now in preparation for a new tender for both of them. In fact, we will quickly go out to tender within this month and continue on our way on both lines.”

“THIS METRO LINE WAS ALMOST ZERO WHEN WE BROUGHT IT”

“Our Göztepe-Ataşehir and Ümraniye line is one of the lines we attach great importance to, like the Dudullu-Bostancı line on the Anatolian side. What is the reason? It should be prioritized: As you know, 'Finanskent', or more precisely the 'Finance Center', will be built by the state, many banks will be moved there, and this metro line passes under it. So when we bought it, this subway line was almost zero. We started the process and executed it quickly. Today we see that we have completed the TBM excavations in a little over 2 years. In this sense, it continues effectively. Friends switched to the shift system. One of our busiest construction sites. It is a project that we support with our own resources.”

“WE WAITING FOR TREASURE APPROVAL FOR 8 MONTHS”

"I am sorry to say that; This line, which will meet the needs of a center under the Financial Center in September and October, where it is stated that close to 80 thousand people will work there, has been waiting for the signature of the Ministry for the approval of the Treasury for approximately 8 months for our 75 million Euro loan. It's exactly 8 months. We've said this many times. We transmitted from right to left. We corresponded with them. But we didn't get any answer. If they sign it, please, our Göztepe-Ataşehir-Ümraniye line will at least accelerate its speed. We expect this. One of the lines we care about. We are now slightly above 50 percent here in two years. We plan to open in the first months of 2024. There is such a process. We wish success to our teams.”

TBMS COMPLETED THEIR DUTIES, IN THE LAYING OF THE RAILS

İmamoğlu restarted the construction work of the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe metro line, a project that has stopped since 2017, on September 20, 2019.
