WatchGuard Turkey and Greece Country Manager Yusuf Evmez states that retail brands need a cybersecurity partner that can provide protection for both in-store and online channels, and retailers supported by MSPs should take various measures.

Along with the education sector, it is seen that the fashion industry was one of the sectors most affected by cyber attacks last year. So much so that various studies are reported that reveal that 60% of retail companies are at risk of being hacked. Stating that fashion retailers should address cybersecurity measures in light of the increasingly multi-channel nature of the industry, Yusuf Evmez underlines that retail companies face threats such as ransomware, phishing and fraud that their users are exposed to in e-commerce channels and physical stores. Stating that hackers take advantage of security vulnerabilities or bad practices on the devices of employees or customers, Evmez states that retail companies need to improve their cyber security in 3 important issues.

Firewalls alone may not be enough. Both servers and other devices need to be complemented by comprehensive network security that protects not only internal employees but also customers accessing the store network. For this, companies need additional solutions such as web and DNS filters.

The security of Wi-Fi networks should not be overlooked. Wi-Fi networks are an important attack vector that puts not only the retailer, but also the in-store customers at risk. Stores need to have a secure Wi-Fi system easily managed from the cloud with Wi-Fi 6 access points and WPA3 security.

Endpoints must be secured. All security measures should be combined with an endpoint protection, detection and response (EPDR) solution that has zero trust and can detect the most advanced threats that can evade traditional antivirus solutions such as fileless malware or malicious code attacks.
