Fainting in Children May Be Linked to Heart Disease!

Pediatric Cardiology Specialist Prof.Dr.Ayhan Çevik gave important information about the subject. It is a temporary loss of consciousness due to a decrease in oxygen to the brain for various reasons. If the brain remains without oxygen for a long time, it can lead to conditions that progress to convulsions and coma. Fainting in children is more common among young adults and especially girls. Families are worried about their child's life during fainting.

Just before fainting, you may experience blackouts, dizziness, and ringing in the ears. Injury may occur when falling, as consciousness will turn off. Hunger, fatigue, thirst, stress, standing for a long time, being in a crowd, heat and stuffiness can be triggering and facilitating factors.

Fainting caused by the failure of blood pressure and heart rate control to keep up with the rapid changes in the body and the control disorder of the autonomic system in children in the rapid growth period is called vasovagal syncope or neurocardiogenic syncope in medical language.

In the child who faints, first a careful history is taken and a physical examination is performed. Examination of children by pediatric cardiology and pediatric neurology Echocardiography, EKG, tilt-table test if necessary, and 24-hour ECG and EEG shots may be required. Short-term fainting in young children after hurting or crying is also called a seizure fit. In such cases, contrary to popular belief, it is undesirable to lift children up in the air, shake them, blow on their faces, immerse them in water, massage them, and try to open their mouths. Especially, it is recommended to turn to the side and wait for a shorter participation watch.

Prof. Dr. Ayhan Cevik said, "For whatever reason, fainting in children should be investigated and necessary treatments should be done."
