“Environmentally Friendly Tourism and Local Development in Dicle Dam Lake” project submitted to Karacadağ Development Agency by Diyarbakır Water and Sewerage Administration (DİSKİ) General Directorate and Eğil Municipality was accepted.

DISKİ General Directorate has terminated fossil (petroleum) fueled boat transportation in Eğil district as of April 1 in order to prevent possible pollution and risks within the framework of the “Dicle Dam Lake Basin Protection Plan”.

After the removal of fossil fuel boats, the “Environmentally Friendly Tourism and Local Development in the Dicle Dam Lake” project, which was submitted to the Karacadağ Development Agency, was accepted for the transportation of green energy.

6 electric boats

With the project, 25 electric boats for 6 people will serve the citizens in Eğil instead of fossil fuel boats.

With the implementation of the project, boat trips will start again in Egil in accordance with the legislation.

Karacadağ Development Agency General Secretary Dr. Hasan Maral and agency experts visited DİSKİ General Manager Fırat Tutşi and discussed the details of the project.

Tutşi said that they are carrying out the project in order to protect the Dicle Dam Pond from pollutants within the scope of the regulation on the protection of drinking and utility water basins.

Dicle Dam Lake Basin will be protected

Pointing out that the project will contribute greatly to the protection of the Tigris River, Tutşi said:

“Within the project, we aim to eliminate the pollutants of the Dicle Dam Lake Basin and to protect the basin by improving the water quality by reducing the possible future potential pollutant effects. With the project, besides the environmental improvement of the Dicle Dam Lake Basin, the sustainability of drinking and utility water supply will also be guaranteed. With the realization of this project, we will prevent the pollution caused by boats in the drinking water basin. Thus, the use of environmentally friendly innovative technologies in the region will be supported.”
