'Darülmülk Konya Seljuk Palaces Exhibition' Opened in Istanbul

The “Darülmülk Konya Seljuk Palaces Exhibition”, prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Konya Metropolitan Municipality, meets the visitors at the Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they are making serious efforts to explain Konya in every sense and said, “It is an important visitation center especially for tourists coming to Istanbul. Konya is a capital city, Istanbul is a capital city. An important exhibition combining these two capitals has emerged.” said. The exhibition, which consists of 140 works that have not been exhibited before, most of which were found in recent archaeological excavations, will be open to visitors until 25 August.

"Darülmülk Konya Seljuk Palaces Exhibition", which aims to promote the art and architecture of the Turkish Seljuk State at national and international level, Darülmülk Palace located on Konya Alaaddin Hill, Kubadabad Palace built by Alaeddin Keykubad around Beyşehir Lake and Filobad Palace, which is estimated to be around Konya Akyokuş consists of artifacts unearthed during excavations.

Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay visited the exhibition held in Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum and examined the most outstanding works obtained from the palace ruins in Darülmülk Konya.

Making evaluations about the exhibition, Mayor Altay pointed out that Konya is a city that has been the center of very important civilizations, starting from Çatalhöyük until today, but that it lived its brightest period when it was the Seljuk capital.

Noting that as the Metropolitan Municipality, they are making serious efforts to explain Konya in every sense, Mayor Altay said, “We are bringing the 'Darülmülk Seljuk Palaces Exhibition', which is currently on display in Istanbul, to our visitors in the heart of Istanbul. Many of the 140 selected works are on display here for the first time. This exhibition also constitutes an important stage in our efforts to explain the Seljuks and the Seljuk capital, Konya. It is an important visitation center especially for tourists coming to Istanbul. Konya is a capital city, Istanbul is a capital city. An important exhibition combining these two capitals emerged. “VERY IMPORTANT STUDY SHOWING KONYA'S PLACE IN TURKISH-ISLAMIC HISTORY”

Istanbul Provincial Director of Culture Coşkun Yılmaz stated that the exhibition is one of the most important works showing Konya's place in Turkish-Islamic history and said, “Remembering Konya as a darülmülk; It is extremely important that it shows its Seljuk-centered position in Turkish and Islamic history. In addition, a very important study has emerged that reflects the richness of Konya in terms of social, political, economic and intellectual history. I think that it will be an art-centered activity to tell the historical value of Konya, starting from Istanbul, to the world. Exhibition Organizing Committee Member Assoc. Dr. Muharrem Ceken said, “We created this exhibition by selecting 140 works in Konya museums. In fact, the works in this exhibition are the archaeological materials of the three palaces representing Darülmülk Konya. The most important of these palaces are the Konya Palace and the 2nd Kılıçarslan Mansion. 2. The tiles in Kılıçarslan Mansion and many stone reliefs on the wall of the Konya Palace, as well as plasters used in the interior of the palace, are used in the design and decorations. Many artifacts found during the excavations of the Kubadabad Palace in Beyşehir are also included in this exhibition. The most magnificent works of the Seljuk era were moved from the Seljuk capital, Konya, to the Ottoman capital from Darülmülk.” said.

“UNDERSTANDING THE SELJUK IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE WORKS THEY MADE”

Exhibition Organizing Committee Member Prof. Dr. Alptekin Yavaş said, “Seljuks are our ancestors who laid the foundations of Turkey. Understanding them is about understanding the works they make. The people of Konya are very lucky, they can see them every day, but people in Istanbul or elsewhere cannot. On this occasion, this exhibition is very important. Visitors will see artifacts, some of which are on display for the first time. Palaces are the places where the Seljuks exhibited all their decorative and architectural skills and aesthetic tastes at the highest level. If we can introduce the most distinguished works of these palaces, we will introduce the Seljuks a little. I hope there will be a lot of visitors.” made the statement.

Domestic and foreign visitors visiting the exhibition also stated that they were very impressed by the works and thanked those who contributed.

MANY WORKS ARE EXHIBITED FOR THE FIRST TIME

The exhibition, where the repair inscription dated 1203, which is the only document belonging to the Konya inner castle, is exhibited for the first time, reveals many works of palaces and mansions that have survived from the magnificent legacy of the Seljuks, who made Turkey their homeland. Among the works in the Konya Museum Collection, which have never been exhibited before, there is also a coin belonging to each Seljuk sultan minted in the capital, Konya. Most of the exhibited artifacts consist of 140 artifacts that were found in recent archaeological excavations and that are in the museum warehouse and have not been exhibited before.

“Darülmülk Konya Seljuk Palaces Exhibition” will continue to host art lovers at the Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum until 25 August.
