Cerebrum Tech Founder Dr. Erdem Erkul stated that the cyber security market, which had a value of over 2019 billion dollars in 163, is expected to exceed 2030 billion dollars in 430. Erkul said that there is a serious increase in theft of personal data as digitalization enters our lives more and more every day, and that the annual cyber security agreements and investments of giant companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook/Meta, Apple and Microsoft showed a serious increase in 2021.

Erkul said, “According to data collected by CB Insights, in 2021 alone, Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple and Microsoft will spend a total of $1,8 billion to finance or acquire 336 cybersecurity companies, an increase of approximately $23 billion, or 2,4%. spent. According to Cybercrime Magazine, in 2021 alone, the cost of cybercrime exceeded $6 trillion. If this loss were used to describe a country's economy, we would be talking about the third largest country after the USA and China. This cost is expected to increase further and exceed $2025 trillion by 10.

Last year, 100 million rows of data of citizens of more than 533 countries, including Turkey, were leaked on Facebook, and the size of this data was announced as 15 GB. Likewise, in February of last year, search engine and e-mail service provider Yandex announced the danger of a data breach that compromised more than 4 e-mail accounts. More than half of the people are concerned about the theft of their personal data, especially their credit card information and passwords. It is not possible to say that this situation will improve in the near future. The importance and strengthening of cyber security is no longer a choice, it is a necessity.”

How to be cyber secure?

Stating that the risk can be minimized with strong measures taken on time, Erkul stated that digital security can be handled by dividing it into several branches as 'user security', 'hardware-network security' and 'information security'. Erkul summarized what can be done in four points:

Use multi-factor authentication: In addition to the password, phone lock pattern or fingerprint verification should be mandatory, especially for important matters such as bank applications.

Keep applications and systems up-to-date: Cybercriminals attack programs through vulnerabilities, so it's good to keep electronic and digital assets up to date.

Be careful when clicking: Malicious files often come via links. In such a case, avoiding clicking on unrecognized or suspicious links avoids the risk.

Create strong passwords: Different passwords that are considered strong according to standards should be preferred for each account. Although it may seem like the easy way for most of us, it is risky for websites and applications to remember passwords.
