Work continues at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) site. Within the scope of these studies, the installation of the turbine condenser in the turbine section of the 1st unit was started. The condenser consists of more than 10 pre-assembled parts. Among these parts is the condensate discharge line, which has a total weight of 42 tons and is designed to evacuate the used steam, which consists of four sections.

The condenser, which is disassembled to the Akkuyu NPP construction site, consists of many parts. The first phase of the assembly, which includes the installation of the condensate drain line and preparation for welding, and which is planned to take 32 days in total, has been completed. The condenser will have a length of 25 meters, a width of 16 meters and a height of 17 meters when its assembly is completed. The weight of the structure will exceed 1000 tons.

The welding process of the section will continue for about 10 days. After this process, the assembly of auxiliary structures for the installation of the lower and middle sections will be carried out. The assembly of the turbine condenser will be carried out by expert personnel.

AKKUYU NUCLEAR INC. Sergey Butckikh, First Deputy General Manager and NGS Construction Director, said: “An important operation is starting in the turbine section of the first unit. I wish success and congratulations in advance to all builders and specialists who will take part in the installation of thermal and mechanical equipment! This stage is vital in the construction of the turbine island. Afterwards, the main equipment of the turbine generator set will be installed. Construction works and equipment installation on site continue uninterruptedly, in shifts, around the clock, 7 days a week. Teams of professional builders, installers, welders and other specialists work at a fast pace, demonstrating well-coordinated teamwork.”

The turbine condenser was manufactured by ZiO Podolsk, Rosatom's machine building facility specializing in the production of highly complex heat exchange equipment for fuel and power complex enterprises, performing tasks in nuclear and thermal power plants, the oil and gas industry, and shipbuilding.

The foundation concreting for the installation of the turbine unit in the turbine building of the first power unit was completed in June of this year. After the foundation has gained the necessary strength, the experts proceed with the assembly of the turbine condenser components by installing the embedded parts. A turbine facility will be built here in the future.

All stages of construction at the Akkuyu NPP site continue to be closely supervised by independent building inspection organizations and the national regulator, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK).
