Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, which carries out many social and cultural activities in addition to local government services, held the meteor observation feast, which it traditionally organizes every year and which attracts great attention by sky enthusiasts, this year with a great participation.
Attracting attention with its world-class Ski Center and Erciyes High Altitude Camp Center, which is the center of attention for football teams and professional athletes, Erciyes also makes a name for itself with the Meteor Shower Visual Feast, which has become traditional, as well as many national events held during the summer months.
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Science Center and Erciyes A.Ş. 2 thousand sky enthusiasts attended the 'Perseid Meteor Shower in Erciyes is an Unforgettable Visual Feast' event, which was held at an altitude of 650 meters in Kayseri's highest point, Erciyes Ski Center – Hacılar Kapı, in an environment free from light pollution. The participants, who started to come to the event area in the evening hours, observed the Perseid meteor shower, which offers a unique visual feast in the magnificent atmosphere of Erciyes.
Making statements about the event, Erciyes A.Ş. Chairman of the Board of Directors Murat Cahid Cıngı stated that they were in Erciyes for a very interesting sky event and said, “Today we gathered in Erciyes for a very different purpose. Generally, people come to Erciyes for skiing or for sporting purposes, but today we are in Erciyes for a very interesting sky event. We organized this activity for our people to watch the Perseid meteor shower at Hacılar Kapı, at 2 meters of Erciyes, from a point where they can see the sky most ideally, away from light pollution. ERU Astronomy and Space Sciences Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. İnci Akkaya Oralhan stated that this event is observed every year and said, “Today, we will try to observe the Perseid meteor shower in a beautiful atmosphere with the participation of its people. This is actually an event that occurs as a result of matter leftover from Comet Swift entering and leaving our atmosphere. In fact, we observe this event every year, an event that lasts for twenty days. It's an event that starts around the end of July and lasts until mid-August. The reason we are gathered here today on this date is that we aim to see the maximum number of Perseid showers in the night between 12 and 13. "Right now, while we are circling around the solar system, we actually see such beautiful events in our atmosphere because we entered the region of Perseid rain," he said.
On the other hand, at the entrance to the observation point, security measures were taken by the Kayseri Provincial Gendarmerie teams accompanied by the bomb search dog Gama.
