15 thousand 547 students applied to the student dormitories where the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) provides services in order to find a solution to the accommodation problem of university students.
IMM, which started to serve with two dormitories in Avcılar and one dormitory for girls in Beyoğlu Örnektepe in 2021, increased the number of dormitories to 10 this year. With the dormitories opened in Gaziosmanpaşa, Esenyurt, Bayrampaşa, Şişli, Eyüpsultan, Ümraniye and Maltepe, the student capacity increased from 622 last year to 2 thousand 800. 2 thousand 800 students applied to the higher education dormitories of IMM with a capacity of 15 thousand 547 people.
Application received 5,5 times the quota
Applications for higher education student dormitories served by the IMM Youth and Sports Directorate were made online between 22 - 28 August. For IMM Dormitories: “Being a Turkish citizen, having an associate degree and undergraduate degree, being a university student in Istanbul, studying at a state university or a foundation university with 100 percent scholarship, having a family outside the city borders of Istanbul” Students meeting the eligibility criteria apply.
15 thousand 547 people applied for the IMM Higher Education Student Dormitories via the website yurt.ibb.istanbul. While 59,5 percent of the applications were made up of female students with 9 thousand 250 students, 40 percent came from male students with 5 thousand 6 students, and at the end of the seven-day period, a demand exceeding 297 times the total quota emerged.
Results will be announced on 12 September
With the completion of the application period, the process of evaluating the requests has also started. University placement score or grade point average for dormitories, where only students from outside the city apply, the number of years in the university; criteria such as family status, income level of the family, and the number of family members are taken into consideration. After the examinations to be made in the light of all these criteria, students will be able to access the application results from the website of yurt.ibb.istanbul as of September 12, 2022.
Registration starts September 15
Students who are entitled to be accommodated in IMM Higher Education Student Dormitories and whose names are on the main list will be able to register between September 15-21, and students who qualify from the reserve list will be able to come to their dormitories between September 23-29.
IMM Higher Education Dormitories, which will serve in the 2022 – 2023 academic year, will be:
