The total volume of imported and exported goods transported through the China-Laos Railway, which opened eight months ago, has so far reached 1,02 million tons. The total value of these products is approximately 9,14 billion yuan (about 1,35 billion US dollars).

During this time, 1.996 international freight trains had cleared customs on the railway line, the customs office of Kunming, headquartered in southwestern China's Yunnan province, reported on Tuesday. “After the opening of the China-Laos Railway, the diversification of the company's imports and exports has increased,” said Zhang Xianzhou, director of an international logistics company headquartered in Yunnan province's Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. Zhang said that the company's business volume has increased and customs clearance time has been shortened significantly.

Kunming customs office stated that a number of measures have been taken to ensure the efficient operation of international freight trains on the China-Laos Railway. These measures include optimizing controls and improving port functions. The 1.035 km China-Laos Railway, a landmark project under the Belt and Road Initiative, connects the Chinese city of Kunming to the capital of Laos, Vientiane.
