Samsun Metropolitan Municipality has started home trainings to facilitate the lives of families with children with down syndrome. 40 volunteer trainers, who host 10 families two days a week, contribute to the learning of children aged 0-6 with fun activities. The service, which will last for 5 months, aims to strengthen children mentally. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “The special education that our children need in order to continue their education is an undeniable fact. We are always with them,” he said.

The 'Social Partnership for Special Education Project', which will raise awareness in the society by meeting the special education needs of children with Down syndrome, continues. Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, collaborating with Samsun Guidance and Research Center and Educational Solidarity Association of Children with Down Syndrome and their Families (Down-ÇED) in the project, aims to raise awareness so that children can continue their education.

A TEAM OF 10 PEOPLE IS ESTABLISHED

Within the scope of the "Improving the Quality of Special Education Services for Integrative Education (IQSES) Grant Programme, 89 percent of the project is financed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the European Union and Financial Aids Department, with a budget of 116 euros, the financer and executive of the project, the Metropolitan Municipality, psychology, children's He formed a team of 10 volunteers who graduated from the development and social services department.

HOME EDUCATION HAS STARTED

Volunteer trainers who successfully completed training on the right approach to children with Down syndrome, individualization of education, new scientific learning models, and awareness-raising training for pre-school and inclusion reached families. Educators working under the Social Services Department visit 40 families at home and strengthen the skills of children aged 0-6 with Down syndrome. The trainers organize workshops where they can have fun and inform families about how to improve their children's cognitive, psychomotor and social skills.

The parents, who were satisfied with the home education service for their children, thanked the Metropolitan Municipality. Mother Büşra Meralı, who stated that the educators bond with their children quickly, said, “The metropolitan municipality helps our children to lead their lives as normal. Very nice service. Our trainers develop their muscles and language skills through activities such as drawing and cutting. It teaches problem solving, color, shape and size, relating, paying attention, following directions, sitting, crawling, walking, climbing, eating, playing, dressing, and being able to act independently. As parents, we have been informed about how to treat our children and the issues we will pay attention to when meeting their needs. Thank you very much to our mayor.” he said.

With the project, we provide support training at home to our children who have intellectual difficulties in learning. For this, we formed a special team of 10 people. Our volunteer trainers, who are experts in their branches, started their duties. He is a guest at the parents' homes every week and takes care of their children and helps them develop their hands. At the same time, by making his observations, he informs the families and guides them in the right way. Hopefully, our children will develop and become stronger mentally with these trainings.
