Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organized two camps with the title of "Despite" for university and high school students within the scope of the awareness project "My Hand is in You". The third of the camps organized to raise awareness of the disabled will be held in September.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerIn line with the vision of "Another Disability Policy is Possible", the awareness project "My Hand is in You", implemented under the coordination of the Social Projects Department, Disability Services Branch, continues. Project coordinators, including volunteers, organized two separate camps in Buca Kaynaklar to raise the awareness of university and high school students with disabilities. Many interviews and workshops were held in the first camp, called "Despite", from climate change to deep poverty, from technology to toxic relationships. In the second camp, titled “Being Relatives of Disabled Despite…”, workshops were held on discrimination, peace, life and problems from the perspective of relatives of the disabled. M. Anıl Kaçar, Head of Social Projects Department of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, and Nilay Seçkin Öner, Head of Disability Services Branch, also visited the camps and accompanied the workshops.

The preparations for the "Despite the Limitations of Local Governments in the Field of Disability" camp to be held in September by the Hands on You Awareness Project Council have also started.

My Hand is in You project

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which started the project "My Hand is in You" aiming to develop the sense of empathy in the society, brings together volunteer youth and children from different cities of Turkey, besides the districts of Izmir, with this project that sets an example for Turkey. Developed in order to contribute to the discourse of “Another Disability Policy is Possible”, the Elim Sende project aims to raise awareness among children. With the project, the productivity of children and young people is supported by works of art. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to social life, especially disability awareness, and to produce projects that facilitate the lives of disabled people.
