Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, regarding the project of bringing flamingo chicks in Salt Lake together with water, said, “We are carrying water with tankers to flamingos in Salt Lake, which is under the influence of drought. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change took a series of measures to prevent flamingo deaths due to climate change-related drought in Salt Lake, a Special Environmental Protection Area. The ministry first supplied water to the area with tankers so that the brooding area would not be dehydrated until the flamingo chicks reached the flight puberty. Then he accelerated the work of water transfer with pipes for a permanent solution. The Ministry, which also received the opinion of scientists, started to transfer life water to flamingos by laying 4-kilometer pipes from the water source in Gölyazı Neighborhood, which is close to the region.

Flamingos that come to Salt Lake in March spend their incubation period until mid-June. Afterwards, they feed their young here until they reach flight puberty. They migrate at the end of August.
