102 Foreign Terrorist Fighters from 9 Different Nationalities Deported

As a result of the work carried out for Turkey's security within and across borders, a total of 1.168 foreign terrorist fighters from 102 different nationalities, of which 9.000 are US and EU member states, were deported.

The Ministry of Interior, Directorate of Migration Management continues to work on the deportation of foreign terrorist fighters who came from their countries to join terrorist organizations such as PKK/PYD and DAESH. Since the Syrian civil war that started in 2011, a total of 102 foreign terrorist fighters from 9.000 different nationalities have been deported.

Most EU Nationals Deported

Considering the nationality distribution of the expelled foreign terrorist fighters, it was seen that many terrorists were sent back to EU countries. Within the scope of the studies carried out, a total of 2011 FYTS nationals from 59 US and EU member countries have been deported since 1.109.

According to this;

  • 2019 from 12 European Union countries in 126,
  • 2020 from 8 European Union countries in 95,
  • While being sent back to 2021 FTF countries from 8 European Union countries in 69;

In the seven-month period of this year, 6 foreign terrorist fighters from 20 European Union countries were deported.

Among the foreign terrorist fighters repatriated since the beginning of 2019, the first eight nationalities (EU member states) were France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Romania, Sweden, and Austria.
