“Our aim here is to be able to actively use the unused schools in our villages in some way as an educational institution or in response to different needs.” Özer said, first of all, he underlined that a regulation change was made so that village primary schools could be opened regardless of the number of students. Minister Mahmut Özer reminded that the criterion for opening a kindergarten in villages was reduced to 10, and said that with this change, 5 thousand children in the villages met with kindergartens.

Özer shared the following information on the transformation of unused village school buildings into village life centers: “If it cannot be used as a kindergarten or primary school, it can be used as a public education center, and especially by conducting all kinds of education that our villagers need, especially about agriculture and animal husbandry, in coordination with our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. We're trying to get it to where it's at. At the same time, if there is no need for a public education center, we continue to work on transforming it into a youth camp depending on the situation and physical conditions of the village, a place where our children will spend time in the youth camp and breathe the village environment.”

Explaining that the project was received with great enthusiasm in all provinces, districts and villages, Özer said, “Our provinces have now started to actively participate in this process of bringing schools back to life in their own villages. Hopefully, until the 2022-2023 academic year begins, we, as the ministry, will closely follow the process of opening village schools in the field and actively putting them into service of our citizens, together with all our colleagues.” he said.
