DHL Middle East Vice President and CIO Burak Ertuna said that Turkey is the region's most ideal location for global transportation. Pointing out that Turkey is a strategic destination especially for Asia and Middle East routes, Ertuna said, "We use the advantages of Turkey's location to manage our international networks in the region and to provide efficient service."

DHL Middle East Vice President Burak Ertuna made evaluations about the Middle East strategies of DHL, one of the largest transportation companies in the world. Drawing attention to innovative technologies in logistics, Ertuna said that DHL focuses on developing strategies for digitalization and sustainability in logistics processes, especially in the Middle East region. Ertuna said, “As DHL, we are constantly expanding our network in the region. Thanks to our global experience, we have a unique supply chain management system. With our advanced solutions, we can effectively meet the needs of local markets. We attach importance to the sustainability of supply chain processes in the MENA region, which is an important bridge between Europe and Asia.

“DHL has the vision of being the pioneer of sustainable logistics”

Pointing out that they are turning to renewable solutions and alternative energy sources in their facilities in the Middle East, Ertuna pointed out that they attach special importance to solar energy due to the climatic conditions of the region. Ertuna said, “DHL has the vision to be the pioneer of sustainable logistics in 2050. We make sustainable investments in all the markets we serve.”

Burak Ertuna reminded that as DHL Express MENA, they started direct flights from Bahrain to Istanbul. Emphasizing that they follow a network optimization strategy to increase air efficiency and improve transit times in the Middle East, Ertuna said, “Bahrain-Istanbul-Bahrain flights are operated 6 times a week. This route has significantly reduced the transit times of shipments between Turkey and the Middle East countries. Pointing out that Turkey is the region's most ideal location for global transportation, Ertuna continued: “Turkey is a strategic destination especially for Asian and Middle East routes. We use the advantages of Turkey's location to manage our international networks in the region and provide efficient service. We will also have new flight routes in the region this year.”

“We contribute to e-commerce with new generation solutions”

Drawing attention to the B2C e-commerce solutions of DHL, the global leader of the logistics industry, Ertuna said, “E-commerce is one of DHL's strategic growth areas. We aim for a stable expansion in the e-commerce sector with automated fulfillment centers. We can complete logistics processes in a short time within the framework of our commercial automation and digitalization strategies. Together with our team in the field, we increase the processing speed of orders. We focus on improving operational efficiency by optimizing the workflows of our employees for our e-commerce business partners. Burak Ertuna also pointed out that the Russia-Ukraine war had a negative impact on international transportation in the region. Emphasizing that the Middle Corridor should be strengthened to overcome the difficulties in transportation, Ertuna reminded that a working group was established between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan for this purpose. Emphasizing the importance of strengthening this corridor and overcoming the infrastructure and bureaucratic obstacles in the region, Ertuna said, “The Middle Corridor will increase Turkey's share in global transportation. The Middle Corridor, which was an alternative route due to the Ukraine-Russia war, has come to a very advantageous position in global trade.
