Domestic industrial property applications and registrations continued their increasing trend in the first 6 months of this year. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that domestic industrial property applications exceeded 126 thousand between January and June and said, “The number of geographical registrations reached 149 in the same period.” said. Minister Varank announced that the companies that made the most patent applications in the first six months of the year were Mercedes-Benz Türk, ASELSAN and Arçelik.

3 THOUSAND 657 PATENT APPLICATIONS

Significant increases were recorded in the industrial property applications made to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) in the January-June 2022 period compared to the same period of the previous year. Making an evaluation on the subject, Minister Varank said, “In the first half of the year, a total of 3 thousand 657 domestic industrial property applications were made to TURKPATENT, including 3 thousand 229 patents, 87 thousand 932 utility models, 31 thousand 965 brands, 126 thousand 783 designs.” said.

UTILITY MODEL INCREASED 34 PERCENT

Minister Varank noted that between January and June of 2022, domestic patent applications increased by 2021 percent compared to the same period of 3, "There was an increase of 34 percent in domestic utility model applications and 28 percent in domestic design applications." he said.

70 THOUSAND LOCAL TRADEMARK REGISTRATIONS

Emphasizing that there are remarkable increases in the number of domestic industrial property registrations, Varank said, “In the January-June period, the number of domestic patent registrations increased by 11 percent to 719, and the number of domestic utility model registrations increased by 38 percent to 273. During this period, there was a 50 percent increase in the number of domestic trademark registrations and 70 thousand 603 trademark registrations were made. The number of domestic design registrations increased by 38 percent to 31 thousand 589. said.

ANNOUNCED THE TOP THREE

Minister Varank announced that between January and June, Mercedes-Benz Türk (112), ASELSAN (71) and Arçelik (61) were the organizations that made the most patent applications.

INCREASED 120 PERCENT

Emphasizing that there has been a significant increase in geographical indication applications, Varank said, “Geographical indication applications increased by 2022 percent in the first 6 months of 120 compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, 163 geographical indications were registered. Thus, our total number of registered geographical indications reached 149.” said.

YILDIZ TECHNICAL AND ISTANBUL DEVELOPMENT

When we look at the statistics of TÜRKPATENT for the first 2022 months of 6, 50 universities were among the first 14 companies to apply for patents. 333 patent and utility model applications were made by universities. Yildiz Technical University and Istanbul Gelisim University shared the first place among the universities with the highest number of patent applications, with 17 applications each, while Erciyes University was in the second place with 13 applications, and Istanbul Technical University, Üsküdar University and Ege University were in the third place with 12 applications.

LEADERSHIP IN ISTANBUL

In the distribution of industrial property applications according to the same statistics; While the order in the number of patent applications is Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, in the number of trademark and utility model applications, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir; Istanbul, Bursa and Ankara were also in the first three places in design applications. The provinces with the highest number of geographical indication applications were Balıkesir, Hakkari and Malatya (16), followed by Bursa (15) and Konya and Sakarya (7).

GIRESUN TOMBUL HAZELNUT

With the registration of “Giresun Tombul Hazelnut”, the number of geographical indications registered in Turkey with the European Union increased to 8. Antep Baklava, Aydın Fig, Aydın Chestnut, Bayramiç White, Malatya Apricot, Milas Olive Oil and Taşköprü Garlic had received geographical indication before.
