24-year-old Chief Engineer Sergeant Batuhan Şimşek, who was martyred in Northern Iraq as part of Operation Claw Lock, was buried in İzmir. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerDeputy Chairman Nilay Kökkılınç, who attended the ceremony representing Turkey, expressed her condolences to the Şimsek family.

The body of Chief Engineer Sergeant Batuhan Şimşek (24), who was martyred in Northern Iraq during Operation Claw Lock, was brought to İzmir. The Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who could not attend the ceremony because he was out of the city, Tunç SoyerDeputy Chairman Nilay Kökkılınç did not leave Şimşek family alone.

Martyr Şimşek, who was taken to his family home in Bornova after the welcome ceremony at Adnan Menderes Airport, received halal here. Şimşek's body was then taken to the Gaziemir 15 July Mosque. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nilay Kökkılınç, İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Aegean Army Commander General Ali Sivri, İzmir deputies, district mayors, representatives of political parties and citizens attended the funeral prayer, which was held after the afternoon prayer. Kökkılınç expressed his condolences to Şimşek's mother Ayten Şimşek and her father Hakan Şimşek, who were later buried in Kadifekale Air Cemetery.
