Kilos of cocaine, khat, amphetamine and cannabis type drugs were seized in the operations carried out at Istanbul Airport last week by the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, the foreign national, who was determined by the NarkoKİM teams of the Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, who came to Istanbul Airport from South America and then went to Izmir, was evaluated as risky. Although no negativity was found in the search of the body and belongings, when the body was searched again due to the suspicious behavior of the person, it was noticed that there was a hardness in the abdomen. It was determined that the person who was directed to the internal body examination had swallowed 85 capsules. It was determined that the analyzed capsules contained cocaine. The personal examination was completed and he was referred to the Prosecutor's Office.

In the second operation, some cargoes were evaluated as suspicious in the risk analysis of the aircraft that will transit from the Middle East to Africa. 96 kilos of khat-type narcotic drugs were seized, packaged in one of the suspicious cargoes, which were X-rayed and searched in detail by NarkoKİM personnel.

Drugs found hidden in wedding dress lining

In another operation, 14 amphetamines were seized, stashed in the lining of the wedding dress, during the search of the suspicious package identified during the routine control of cargo shipments coming from abroad or going in transit.

In other operations carried out, a total of 3 kilos of cannabis, hidden in their suitcases, was seized during the searches made by the Customs Enforcement personnel as a result of the follow-up of 10,5 suspects detected on flights from African countries.

As part of the work carried out on three different incidents, people waiting outside the airport were also reached, and a total of 4 people were detained. Investigations into the events are continuing before the Prosecutor's Office.
