7 people, including 25 children, who lost their lives in the Çorlu Train Massacre, were commemorated in the 4th year of the massacre, at the 8 July Monument in Sarılar Village, where the disaster took place. Zeliha Bilgin, who lost her daughter, siblings and six-month-old niece in the massacre, said, “Couldn't you have issued a condolence message today as the Minister of Transport of this country? What is it that makes you nervous? 25 lives have died in vain on the roads of this state. Where is the Minister of Transport of this state? Today, he cannot say a single word for 25 lives.” Hüseyin Şahin, father of Ferhat Şahin, who lost his life in the disaster, said, “Tomorrow, all of their children will kiss their hands. Who will kiss our hand? Those responsible never appeared before us. The state is hiding it,” he said.
It has been four years since the Çorlu train massacre, which took place near the Sarılar village of Çorlu district of Tekirdağ on July 8, 2018, in which 7 people, 25 of them children, lost their lives and more than 300 were injured. Those who lost their lives were commemorated in Çorlu today.
Those who lost their relatives in the disaster could not hold back their tears during their speeches. Zeliha Bilgin, who lost her daughter, siblings and six-month-old niece in the massacre, said the following in her speech:
“There is so much I want to say, but there are no words to come out of my mouth. In the days when the book of not asking for account and injustice was written; I see again that there is no friend for us but us. We are quite a; I will call all together to account for what was done, injustice, and those who were murdered. Holidays and special days are over for us. But those who cause them celebrate their holidays so well because they are not held accountable.
Because no one is asking them to account. Because the children who died were ours, not theirs. Because of the negligence in the State Railways, 25 angels were sent off from here to the sky. Dreams gone, hopes gone. Our doctor is gone, our teacher is gone. Our sons with pink dreams are gone, for nothing. Who asked the bill? Wasn't there, this country; A judge to hold accountable? Couldn't they at least give us hope on such a festive night?
From here, I am calling out to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of this country, I am calling out to Adil Karaismailoğlu: I have been checking the accounts of the State Railways and his since this morning, on Twitter. They wish you happy holidays. No good holidays for us. Couldn't you, as the Minister of Transport of this country, publish a condolence message today? What is it that makes you nervous? 25 souls died in vain on the roads of this state. He died because of your negligence. Where is the Minister of Transport of this state? He can't say a word for 25 lives today. Because he is guilty. It doesn't suit the chair he sits in. People like him don't fit either."
Lawyer Elif Sıla Aşık read the message of Attorney Can Atalay, who is imprisoned in Silivri Prison as part of the Gezi Park Case. Atalay sent the following message:
“Message from Attorney Can Atalay: Exactly 4 years ago, 25 of our people were sent to their deaths as a result of the gradual delivery of the railway infrastructure to market conditions in Çorlu and its precariousness with justification. The cause of death is systemic. Those responsible are high-level bureaucrats, especially the Minister of Transport. Justice in Turkey can no longer remain silent to our people who were massacred in Çorlu and lost in social murders. We recognize the action taken to ensure that these social murders go unpunished, adding to the suffering of our people. We want justice. Justice for Corlu. We will overcome this social murder order together.”
