Dentist Pertev Kökdemir warned that using toothpicks to remove food residues from teeth can damage teeth and gums.

Brushing and flossing is the right way to clean the food particles left between the teeth. Dt. Kökdemir explained that toothpick is not accepted as an interdental cleaner and therefore is not recommended for teeth cleaning.

“Using a toothpick is not an ideal way to get something stuck between your teeth. “Toothpicks can push on the gums, causing permanent recession. “This condition can lead to gum disease and other dental problems,” he said.

Dt.Kökdemir said that preventive dentistry has modern ways to help individuals have a healthy mouth. He emphasized that regular dental check-ups help to determine the need for treatment before it turns into a problem.

If food is constantly stuck between your teeth, especially in the same place, the reason for this may be the beginning of caries in that area or the gap between the teeth due to clenching. Resolving these problems as soon as possible will also reduce your need for toothpicks.

Dt Kökdemir emphasized the importance of going to regular dentist checks every 6 months and making the necessary interventions at an early stage.
