The Sky Observation Events, where TÜBİTAK brings together astronomy enthusiasts of all ages, will be held this time in Erzurum after Diyarbakır and Van. Preparations that started months ago at Konaklı Ski Center for the event to be held on July 22-24 have been completed. The region, where Turkey's largest telescope, the Eastern Anatolian Observatory (DAG), is under construction, will be the new “Sky-Looking Stop” for space and astronomy enthusiasts.
Erzurum Sky Observation Event, under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was organized by the Erzurum Governorship, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, North East Anatolian Development Agency (KUDAKA), Atatürk University and the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA). It will be held in Erzurum for the first time under the coordination of TÜBİTAK. Final preparations were made for the event. Tents were set up to accommodate the participants, and areas such as the dining hall and conference hall were created. Infrastructure works of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality have also been completed in order to use the area more effectively.

FAMILIES AND WOMEN SHOW GREAT ATTENTION
Astronomy enthusiasts show great interest in Erzurum Observation Event, which aims to increase young people's interest in space with the vision of the National Space Program. Among the 71 people who applied to the event from 800 different provinces, 600 people were chosen by lottery. Families and women showed great interest to participate in the Erzurum Sky Observation Event, as was the case in Diyarbakır and Van, which was held before. The youngest guest of the event, determined by lot, will be 1 year old, and the oldest will be 66 years old. While the predominantly demand of students and young people stood out, it was observed that the applicants were between the ages of 20-40.

In the observing event, which will be open to the public as of 23:10.00 on Saturday, July 18, seminars, competitions and many activities related to astronomy will be organized for astronomy enthusiasts from all age groups. DAG, Turkey's largest investment in the field of basic sciences, is considered one of the vision projects of the 100th anniversary of the Republic. DAG, which will become Turkey's largest telescope with a diameter of 4 meters when completed, will also be an “infrared” telescope that can make observations outside the region where the human eye is sensitive. It is planned that the first light will be received from DAG, whose installation work continues, by the end of this year. Ministers Varank and Kasapoğlu, who will open the event, will also make examinations at DAG and receive information about the installation activities carried out.

The Ministry of Industry and Technology brings together sky enthusiasts of all ages by spreading the TÜBİTAK National Sky Observation Event, which was first initiated by TÜBİTAK Science and Technical Journal in 1998 and held in Antalya Saklıkent, to different cities of Anatolia. Organized with the motto of “Looking at the Sky”, the sky observation activities will be held in Antalya on August 18-21 this year, after Erzurum.
